Department of Computer & Information Engineering

Computer technology is a young but fast growing science. Its education is now as indispensable as any of the traditional programmes in any established university.

Founded in Dec. 2001, the Department of Computer & Information Engineering of Wuhan Polytechnic University is committed to high-quality education and training of computing professionals at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The research programmes of the undergraduate level cover Computer Science & Technology, Information Management & Information System, Computer Application and Computer Network. The Department consists of three laboratories: the Laboratory of Basic Computer Courses, Professional Laboratory and CAD Laboratory, which to fulfill the whole computer courses of our university.

The Department currently has 71 faculty members, among which more than 70% have received Master's and Doctor's degree. They are active in research and development in various areas including Internet and e-commerce, databases, parallel and distributed computing, pattern recognition, algorithms and complexity, computer graphics, multimedia, software engineering. Some of the research results have been applied to the development of real software and systems, such as “ System of Car License Plate Recognition and Match” of Professor Suan. Guan, “ NELL DVS2000 Digital Video-Information System” of Professor H.C. Feng which had obtained the Third-Class Award of Scientific and Technological Progress of Hubei.

Information Management & Information System

The primary mission of programme of Information Management & Information System is developing students' professional knowledge of computer and Information management. It attach to an experienced Information executive or manager.

Computer Application

The programme focuses on providing basic principles on the theory and application of computers in the areas of computer hardware and software. It focuses on the theory and application of IT in educational activities such as instructional design and delivery as well as administrative and management issues.

Computer Network

Computer Network Programme is in order to catch up with the rapid development of computer network technology. It aims to provide students with a thorough grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of the computer network discipline necessary for successful careers as network system designers and builders. The programme enables students to develop a strong foundation in the discipline as well as specialization in computer science through flexible curriculum.
