Department of Civil Engineering
General Information
The Department of Civil Engineering, founded in 1999, is one of the main disciplines in Wuhan Polytechnic University. The department has set up a group of teachers and researchers with good academic reputation, strong creativity and balanced composition. With Prof. Liu Jianjun, hea d of the department of Civil Engineering as its principal pioneer in academy, the group is composed of well-known scholars and backbone faculties of middle and young ages as follows: four professors, eleven associate professors, and six lecturers or engineers. Six faculties have a Ph.D. degree, 14 faculties have a Master degree. Four of them serve as editors of domestic journals.
The goals of education in the department are as follows: Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Architecture and Traffic Engineering (all offering Bachelor of Engineering degree). Every year, nearly 200 undergraduates and few master degree students graduate from the department. The department not only requires the students to have solid foundation of theoretical knowledge, broad background in specialty, strong capability in practice and good computer skills, but also stresses on the improvement of student's all-round quality and creativity. With its well-equipment laboratories and teaching facilities, combination of theories with practices, various advanced research subjects serving the national economy, and a high quality faculty team, the department provides the students with a good environment for studying and developing their talents as well as giving full play to their intelligence and wisdom.
There are two institutes in the department of civil engineering. One is the Institute of Poromechanics and the other is the Institute of Architecture Environment & Equipment. Research fields of this discipline mainly include flow in porous media and its coupling process in geo-systems, Theory of reinforced concrete strength and deformation, modeling and control of ground water pollution, etc.
There are 4 state level on-going projects including projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Significant Fundamental Research Development and Planning of China (973 Program), etc. There are also more than ten provincial or ministerial level projects including Key Science and Technology Project of Hubei Province Education Office, Hubei Natural Science Foundation project, etc.
The department has many research projects that are facing the requirements of national economy, serving basic industries, supporting industries and high-tech industries. So far, the department has won several state-level and provincial and ministerial level awards. More than 240 academic papers have been published in key domestic or international journals and conferences. Extensive links and broad cooperation have been set up with international academia and industries.
The Department of civil engineering sincerely thanks those who have given supports and concern to us and hope the department will continue to enjoy your solid supports.
