School of Electric & Electronic Engineering

Introduction

The School of Electric and Electronic Engineering, which enrolled its first students majoring in Automation in 1993, was founded on the basis of the department of Mechanical and Electric Engineering. Since its foundation, the School has trained over 3,000 advanced professionals on Electric Information Engineering and has formed its unique features.

The School of Electric and Electronic Engineering has a comprehensive curriculum of subjects. Among them, Telecommunication & Information Engineering, and Electric Theories & New Techniques are being constructed to be subjects of master stations of the Hubei province. Detection Technology and Automation Equipment is listed as the important subject of the university. The college can confer master's degree in Agricultural Informationization. It has 6 undergraduate majors: Automation, Electric Engineering & Automation, which is the province's brand major, Electronic Information Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronic Information Science & Technology, and Microelectronics. It has quality courses of the province such as College Physics and Electric Control Technique and has the province's college physics teaching group.

The School of Electric and Electronic Engineering has distinguished features in its scientific research. It has advantages and makes great achievements in Detection of Weak Signals of Agricultural Products, Transmission and Intelligence Control, Computerized Automatic Detection and Identification of Agriculture Products, and Control System of Agriculture Product Processing & Distribution. In the past three years, it has undertaken one project supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), three important projects of Hubei province, over 30 projects of the province and the municipality, and 30 plus other horizontal projects. It has won 4 prizes from the province and the ministry and 3 national patents. The School has published over 500 research papers, of which more than 100 are included in SCI, EI, and ISTP, and over 100 Academic Monographs and textbooks. The School attaches great importance to academic exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign scholars. Dr. Yi Lin, chairman of American International Committee of General System Theory, and Dr. Achim SYDow, dean of the department of System Analysis and Simulation of the Department of Fraunhofer Mathematics & Physics in Berlin, Germany, once gave lectures in this School. What¡¯s more, the School has close exchanges and communication with prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The School is large-scaled with a capable teaching staff. It has 95 staff members, 78 of whom are full-time teachers, among whom there are 6 professors, 27 associate professors, 15 PhDs and 38 with master's degree (5 of whom are studying for doctor's degree). Two teachers have been awarded with the province government allowance and 2 teachers with the title of famous teacher of the university. The teaching staff is now achieving the goal of being properly-aged, well-structured, and high-qualified. Young and middle-aged teachers are becoming the main force of teaching and research. The college now has over 1500 undergraduates and graduate students. It has sound organizations and good teaching conditions. There is an Automation Teaching and Research office, Electric Engineering and Automation office, Telecommunication office, College Physics office, Telecommunication Science and Technique office, Administration Office, and Students Affairs 0ffice. It has an electric and electronic engineering experiment teaching model center of Hubei province. The School has a laboratory with an area of over 8,000 square meters, over 3000 instruments and equipments with the total value of 12 million RMB, each item valued at least 800 RMB, a library with 5,600 books, and 20 off-campus practice and research bases.

Over the years, the college has been characterized by its training of applied talents. It administers its teaching in a strict manner and stresses the quality of its graduates. In recent years, its students have published over ten academic papers and have successfully applied for 32 research projects. They have finished 22 projects of college student innovation experiment program and won 36 prizes in national, regional, and provincial contests including 2 national first prizes, 12 national second prizes, 12 national third prizes and 1 provincial grand prize, and have won 5 scientific research prizes of the national level and the provincial/ministerial level including one national second prize. The graduates from this college have good personal qualities. They are willing to endure hardship and study diligently and therefore enjoy a good reputation among employers. The School has an leading employment rate in the university.
